Kadıköy’de “Fransız Kilisesi” olarak da bilinen Notre Dame de l’Assomption, Meryem Ana’nın Göğe Alınışı’na adanmıştır. 1858’de Havarisel Vekil Brunoni, rahip De Negri’yi Kadıköy’de bir kilise kurmakla görevlendirdi; Sakız Adası’ndan yeni gelen Katolik aileler inşaata somut katkı sağladı.

1859 tarihli bir fermanla izin alınan kilise, mimar Giovanni Battista Barberini tarafından neoklasik üslupta tasarlandı ve 1865’te tamamlandı; cephedeki Latince yazıtta mimarın adı “Architectus Johannes Barborini” olarak geçer. Haç planlı, kubbeli yapının batı cephesinde iki çan kulesi yükselir.

2 Temmuz 1895 tarihli bir papalık yazısıyla kilise ve eklentileri Assomptionist (Asumsiyonist) rahiplere devredildi ve yanına bir manastır binası eklendi. 1970’lerin ortasından beri kilise Süryani cemaati tarafından da kullanılmaktadır. Ayinler Türkçe ve Fransızca yapılır.

Notre Dame de l’Assomption, also known in Kadıköy as “the French Church”, is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. In 1858 the Apostolic Vicar Brunoni charged Father De Negri with founding a church in Kadıköy; Catholic families newly arrived from Chios made a real contribution to the building.

Permitted by a firman of 1859, the church was designed in the neoclassical style by the architect Giovanni Battista Barberini and completed in 1865; in the Latin inscription on the façade the architect’s name appears as “Architectus Johannes Barborini”. Two bell towers rise on the west front of the cross-plan, domed building.

By a papal letter of 2 July 1895 the church and its annexes were handed over to the Assumptionist priests, and a monastery building was added beside it. Since the mid-1970s the church has also been used by the Syriac community. Mass is said in Turkish and French.
