Fenerbahçe’deki Aziz Augustin şapeli, 1889–1892 yıllarında Assomptionist rahiplerin eğitim evi olarak inşa edilen bir yapının parçasıdır. Bina 1 Mayıs 1890’da Piskopos Bonetti tarafından kutsandı; 1892’de eklenen iki yan kanattan soldaki, Hipponlu Aziz Augustinus’a adanmış şapel olarak düzenlendi.

Yapı 1890–1914 arasında sırasıyla novis evi, skolastik eğitim evi ve öğrenci yurdu olarak kullanıldı; 1895–1914 arasında papaz okulu oldu ve bu işlevini küçük ölçekte İkinci Dünya Savaşı’na kadar sürdürdü. 1914–1919 arasında hastane olarak hizmet verdi. 1920’den sonra şapel Kadıköy cemaatinin bir eklentisi hâline geldi ve Moda’daki rahipler burada düzenli ayin yapmayı sürdürdü.

Bina 1982’de bir spor tesisinin parçası olarak kiraya verildi; şapel ise 2012–2013’te kapsamlı biçimde yenilendi. Semtin eski Rumca adı “Phanaraki” (küçük fener), yapının erken dönem kayıtlarında geçer.

The St. Augustine chapel in Fenerbahçe is part of a building put up in 1889–1892 as a house of formation for the Assumptionist priests. The building was blessed by Bishop Bonetti on 1 May 1890; of the two side wings added in 1892, the left one was fitted out as a chapel dedicated to St. Augustine of Hippo.

Between 1890 and 1914 the building served in turn as a novitiate, a house of studies and a student hostel; from 1895 to 1914 it was a seminary, a role it kept on a small scale until the Second World War. From 1914 to 1919 it served as a hospital. After 1920 the chapel became an annex of the Kadıköy parish, and the priests from Moda went on celebrating Mass here regularly.

In 1982 the building was leased as part of a sports facility; the chapel was thoroughly renovated in 2012–2013. The neighborhood’s old Greek name, “Phanaraki” (little lighthouse), appears in the building’s early records.
