TarihçeHistory

Polonezköy (Adampol), 1842’de Polonyalı göçmenlerin kurduğu bir köydür. Köydeki ilk dinî yapı 1842’de yapılan Azize Anna Kilisesi’ydi. 1894 İstanbul depreminde bu kilise yıkıldı ve yerine 1914’te bugünkü Częstochowa Meryem Ana Kilisesi inşa edildi.

Birinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında kilise Türk ordusu tarafından karargâh olarak kullanıldı; savaştan sonra 1918’de onarılarak yeniden ibadete açıldı. İçinde, Polonya’nın en önemli hac yeri olan Częstochowa’daki ünlü Meryem Ana ikonasının bir kopyası bulunur. Kilise bugün de Polonya kökenli köy halkının ve İstanbul’daki Polonyalı Katoliklerin buluşma yeridir.

Polonezköy (Adampol) is a village founded in 1842 by Polish émigrés. The village’s first place of worship was the Church of St. Anne, built in 1842. That church was destroyed in the Istanbul earthquake of 1894, and the present Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa was built in its place in 1914.

During the First World War the church was used as a headquarters by the Turkish army; after the war it was repaired and reopened for worship in 1918. Inside is a copy of the famous icon of the Virgin Mary at Częstochowa, Poland’s most important place of pilgrimage. The church is still the meeting place of the village’s people of Polish descent and of the Polish Catholics of Istanbul.
